Cookie Policy

This is the complete list of what MyVillage stores in your browser. It is short, because we only store what the service actually needs to work and what you asked it to remember.

In effect since July 26, 2026

The short version. We set five cookies. They keep you signed in and remember whether you picked light or dark mode. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics product, and nothing that follows you to other sites.

1

What cookies are

A cookie is a small piece of text a site asks your browser to keep and hand back on the next request. Browsers also offer local storage and session storage, which do a similar job without travelling with every request. We use all three, sparingly, and this page lists every one of them.

2

Cookies we set

All of these are strictly necessary or functional. None of them build a profile of you, and none of them are readable by another website.

Cookies set by MyVillage
NameWhat it does
better-auth.session_token7 days, refreshed as you use the siteKeeps you signed in. Without it, every page would ask you to log in again. Not readable by JavaScript.
better-auth.session_data5 minutesA short signed copy of your session so pages render without a database lookup on every request.
better-auth.state, better-auth.pkce_code_verifierA few minutes, deleted when sign-in finishesWritten only while you are signing in with Google, to prove the round trip came back to us and was not forged.
mv_onboardedShort-livedRecords that you have finished onboarding, so we can stop checking on every page you open. Not readable by JavaScript.
mv-theme1 yearRemembers whether you chose light or dark, so the correct one renders immediately instead of flashing.
3

Browser storage we use

These stay on your device and are never sent to our servers. They exist so the interface remembers small preferences.

Local and session storage keys used by MyVillage
NameWhat it does
mvThemeUntil you clear site dataA local mirror of your light or dark choice, read before the page paints.
mv:viewmode:*Until you clear site dataWhether you last viewed a list as a grid or a list, per section.
mv-install-snooze, mv-install-doneUntil you clear site dataRemembers that you dismissed or accepted the prompt to install the app, so we stop asking.
mv.signup.intent, mv.signup.inviteCleared when onboarding finishes or the tab closesCarries a business signup or an invite code through onboarding so a page reload does not lose it. Session storage, not a cookie.
4

What we do not use

No advertising, no cross-site tracking

MyVillage runs no third-party analytics product, no advertising network, no retargeting pixel, no social media tracking button, and no fingerprinting. Nothing on this site follows you to another site. That is why you are not being asked to click through a consent banner to read this page.

Because every cookie we set is strictly necessary or a preference you set yourself, no consent banner is required under the ePrivacy Directive or the GDPR. If that ever changes, you will be asked before the new cookie is set, not after.

5

Third parties

A few outside services are involved in running MyVillage. Here is what each can see.

  • Googlesets its own cookies on its own domain while you are signing in with a Google account. That happens on Google's pages, under Google's policy, and only if you choose that sign-in method.
  • Stripe sets cookies needed for fraud prevention on the checkout pages, if you buy something.
  • Cloudflare may set a security cookie to tell real visitors from attack traffic.
  • OpenFreeMap and YouTube receive a request when a map or an embedded video loads on a page you open. Embedded videos are loaded only after you interact with them.
6

Managing cookies

Every browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Clearing site data for MyVillage removes everything listed above.

Blocking the sign-in cookies will sign you out and keep you out, because staying signed in is what they are for. Blocking the preference ones is harmless. You will simply be asked for those preferences again.
